Editorial Policy & Standards
Verification Standards, Research Methodology, and Corrections Guidelines
1. Topic Selection & Event-Coherence Standards
CurrentDebrief covers real, checkable public events. We enforce a strict event-coherence standard before any topic is considered for a briefing:
- Multi-Source Anchor Requirement: A topic must resolve to at least two independent, reputable news organizations or official records covering the same specific incident with temporal and factual consistency.
- Strict Prohibition on Bare-Name Trivia & Homonym Mashups: We do not publish pages based on trending first names, single common dictionary words, or queries that conflate multiple unrelated individuals or events into a single article.
- Checkable Claims Over Speculation: We prioritize stories involving verifiable developments (legislation, corporate transactions, regulatory rulings, athletic competitions, official investigations) over ungrounded celebrity gossip or transient social media hashtags.
2. Neutrality and Objectivity
CurrentDebrief is a neutral public information directory, not an opinion publication. Our editorial mandate is strictly informational:
- We do not endorse political parties, candidates, commercial products, or public figures.
- We present opposing viewpoints and contested claims fairly, quoting involved parties directly rather than interpreting their motives or speculating on intentions.
- Our editor and contributors do not inject personal commentary, rhetorical flourishes, or subjective conclusions into briefings.
3. Primary Source Attribution Standards
Transparency is fundamental to our editorial mission. Every briefing published on CurrentDebrief features a dedicated "Sources & Citations" section providing direct, outbound links to the underlying reporting:
- Verifiable Primary Sourcing: Outbound links must point to established news publications, recognized press wires (e.g. AP, Reuters), official government gazettes, court filings, or institutional datasets.
- No Social Media Rumors: We prohibit citing unverified anonymous posts, viral social media screenshots, or rumor aggregators as factual sources.
- No Manufactured Metrics: We do not generate artificial metrics or assign false precision tags. Factual numbers are cited with direct attribution to the reporting agency or source document.
4. Computational Research Assistance & Human Editorial Gate
CurrentDebrief believes in complete transparency regarding the use of technology in research:
We utilize computational research tools and language models to assist with initial document ingestion, chronological event extraction, and multi-source timeline structuring. These automated tools are constrained strictly to verified multi-source news data and primary records.
Mandatory Human Gate: No briefing is published automatically. Every article is reviewed by the CurrentDebrief Editorial Team to verify:
- The story represents a single coherent event with valid multi-source corroboration.
- All outbound links are live, accurate, and support the factual claims made in the text.
- The tone is strictly neutral and free of editorializing or automated filler.
5. Corrections, Updates & Retractions
Because we cover evolving public events, information can change rapidly. When new facts emerge or prior reports are clarified by primary sources, we update existing directory entries promptly.
Formal Corrections Workflow: If a factual error is identified, we commit to correcting it transparently. Readers, subjects of briefings, and original publishers are encouraged to submit correction requests directly to:
Our editorial desk reviews all inquiries within 24–48 hours. When substantive corrections are made, an explicit update note detailing what was changed and when is appended to the briefing.
6. Prohibited Content & Safety Standards
To maintain a safe, educational, and family-friendly reference environment, CurrentDebrief enforces strict topic prohibitions. We do not index or publish content involving:
- Adult explicit material, sexually suggestive content, or erotica.
- Graphic violence, gore, or instructions on self-harm.
- Hate speech, harassment, or defamatory attacks against individuals or groups.
- Instructions on illegal acts, fraud, or cyber exploitation.
